How does your organisation contribute to preventing suicide and supporting those affected by it?

We coordinate the Tees Mental Health Training Hub commissioned by the Tees Suicide Prevention Taskforce. We promote suicide prevention training across Tees and deliver MHFA and other accredited training on behalf of the Hub. We also deliver bespoke mental health training to employers across the region through our Well4Work programme. We are an active member of the Blue Light programme, delivering mental health awareness training to the emergency services. We also sit on the Tees Suicide Prevention Taskforce and Tees Crisis Care Concordat.

What are your current priorities?

We plan to:

– Continue to influence strategy through the Tees Suicide Prevention Taskforce.

– Engage proactively in partnership activity in relation to actions required by the Taskforce. This may include; data collection and intelligence, case study, delivery of bespoke activity.

– Provide suicide prevention training to 350 trainees across Teesside within the next 12 months.

– Deliver MHFA, ASIST, MHFA Lite and A Life Worth Living Suicide Prevention training to a range of organisations and individuals across Tees ensuring a broad representation across sectors.

– Expand our Well4Work training across the region to improve wellbeing and resilience within the workplace.

– Exceed our target of 2000 staff who have received bespoke mental health awareness training by March 2018 with impact measure reporting in place with recipient organisations.

What challenges are you currently facing?

Teenage suicide is a key issue in Redcar & Cleveland currently. We need to improve young people’s awareness of risk and also work more closely with schools and colleges in engaging them in suicide prevention training.
