Nai’s House CIO

Nai’s House is a suicide prevention and holistic mental health support service for under 30’s. We are an amalgamation of youth and well-being services, offering suicide prevention and intervention support. Nai’s House provide 1-2-1 support for children and young adults to help manage their mental and emotional well-being. We offer counselling sessions, holistic treatments, and activities such as massage, reiki, meditation, arts, crafts, yoga, and boxing to help relieve the symptoms associated with poor mental health, offer positive distractions, and encourage and empower our guests to find additional coping techniques.

How does your organisation contribute to preventing suicide and supporting those affected by it?

We provide 1-2-1 support for any guest who has mental or emotional challenges.

When a guest is identified as feeling suicidal, we implement the CAMS model and meet weekly with our guests to monitor and review their suicidal feelings.  The CAMS model has been found to be more effective than using DBT and we are using it successfully with our guests.

In addition to the CAMS approach, we provide intensive support through text, calls and emails and where there are other contributing factors (addiction, domestic violence) we connect our guest to the appropriate service for further support.

What challenges are you currently facing?

Service delivery: Securing permanent and appropriate premises is our biggest challenge.

Team capacity: Funding to make the step change from a part-time volunteer led service to a full-time service with a core team of supporters whose work is complimented by a team of volunteers.

Community provision: Lack of provision to keep acutely suicidal guests safe.

Suicide Safer Community: Current lockdown restrictions mean that we cannot train members of the community nor develop the links to implement crisis safe spots and community responders.
