Mind Over Matter Foundation

We are a South Yorkshire based organisation which runs football clubs, safe spaces and events to raise awareness for mental health but also to be an escape for anyone struggling with their mental health, encouraging people through sport and exercise to come together.

How does your organisation contribute to preventing suicide and supporting those affected by it?

We offer friendly, non-judgmental environments for people to come and open up through sport and safe spaces. A number of our current members of the football clubs are men between the ages of 18-40 who have been suicidal or have experienced losing a family member or close friend to suicide, we offer them support and signpost to professional support organisations.

What are your current priorities?

Our current priorities are to drive home the importance of speaking up and getting involved to break the stigma surrounding mental health in our local area.

We encourage all races, sexes and sizes to get involved, and many of our members  help spread the word about our cause. Nobody is excluded and we try to accommodate all.

What challenges are you currently facing?

We are currently facing challenges regarding facilities for our groups moving forward due to a few closures of places in our local area, mainly for the safe spaces which include coffee evenings and get-togethers.
