Kidscape

Kidscape is a leading anti-bullying charity. Our vision is for all children to grow up in a world free from bullying and harm, with adults who keep them safe and help them reach their full potential. Our mission is to provide children, families, carers and professionals with advice, training and practical tools to prevent bullying and protect young lives.

How does your organisation contribute to preventing suicide and supporting those affected by it?

Kidscape has a role to play in understanding the relationship between bullying and suicide.  Our aim is to offer the right advice to children and families and to signpost for appropriate support.  We are also mindful of our responsibility to discuss suicide in relation to bullying in an appropriate way and to campaign for more education in relation to mental health for children and young people.

What are your current priorities?

Our Parent Support Adviser has very recently attended the ASSIST training. We will ensure all staff that support families attend this training going forward.
We have submitted a response to the RSE consultation and encouraged the inclusion of mental health and suicide prevention. We will explore options to work with partners to further educate children and families in relation to bullying and suicide.

What challenges are you currently facing?

We are a small charity so there are always conflicting priorities and stretched capacity.  However this is a critical area for us to get right and to improve and we are seeking appropriate support and making strategic partnerships.
