We are a not for profit training company dedicated to teaching the Grief Recovery Method. This is a step by step programme which helps someone move beyond any loss. Unresolved grief is almost always about unrealised hopes, dreams and expectations - this isn't only after bereavement but after any loss no matter what the cause. We have a network of Grief Recovery Specialists to refer people to and train people to become Grief Recovery Specialists so the network is growing all the time.
How does your organisation contribute to preventing suicide and supporting those affected by it?
The Grief Recovery Method equips individuals with tools that teach them how to complete the "unfinished business" following the loss of hopes, dreams or expectations. By increasing the number of Grief Recovery Specialists we can increase the availabilty of the Grief Recovery Method to more people thus reducing the number reaching the point where they feel so helpless and out of control that suicide is a viable option.
So far we have provided massively reduced price training to 2 charities who support families bereaved by suicide and hope to expand this.
What are your current priorities?
We will be creating a PR campaign to stimulate awareness that anxiety & depression often have unresolved grief at their root and addressing this grief effectively can then reduce both these issues. We also plan to increase number of Training scholorships for those working directly with those affected by suicide and/or those who have at high risk of suicide.
What challenges are you currently facing?
Increasing awareness of who we are and how we are different to counselling and other talking therapies.
Increasing understanding that we grieve all losses and GRM can be a helpful intervention for any loss not only bereavement.
