At the heart of this event lies the moral urgency of preventable shame, suffering and death. People who experience physical and emotional abuse, bullying and family disruption before their 18th birthday are much more likely to experience heart disease, depression and suicidal ideation than their peers, and to die 20 years younger.
This event will bring dialogue, creativity and rigorous attention to one of the most important public health issues of our time. The day aims to explore and enrich our understanding of the complex physiological, psychological and social impact of early traumatic experiences as well as cutting-edge clinical and creative therapeutic interventions, and the importance of community, connection and the power of love to heal.
