In this talk, Dr Sharon McDonnell will discuss historical attitudes to suicide and those bereaved by suicide. Dr McDonnell will detail how these attitudes have progressed, and provide an overview of research in this newly developing field. Dr McDonnell will outline the suicide prevention strategy, incorporating the recognition that clinicians, and those bereaved by suicide, are high-risk groups. She will also discuss the development of evidence based suicide bereavement training, which is first of its kind internationally.
