MindOut: LGBTQ Mental Health Service

MindOut is a mental health service run by and for lesbians, gay men, bisexual, trans, and queer people. We work to improve the mental health and wellbeing of LGBTQ communities and to make mental health a community concern.

Last year we helped 1,342 people struggling with social isolation, suicidal distress, financial hardship, discrimination and prejudice, hate crime and exclusion.

How does your organisation contribute to preventing suicide and supporting those affected by it?

We are run by and for LGBTQ people with experience of mental health issues. We offer suicide prevention interventions, including peer support group work, peer mentoring, online out of hours support, advocacy, advice & information, counselling, training, workshops and courses.

We also publish information for LGBTQ people who experience suicidal distress, for friends and family and for professionals.

What are your current priorities?

To influence national policy, to ensure LGBTQ suicide is researched and responded to. To ensure continuity and development of our work with LGBTQ communities, to improve access to our services, eg for LGBTQ people of colour and for LGBTQ people over 50.
